The quest for the Big 12 title runs through reigning champion Texas Tech

The Big 12 has four protected rivalries, and three of the four games appear on different weekends. TCU at Baylor and Kansas at Kansas State compete on Oct. 17, while BYU at Utah takes place on Nov. 7. Arizona State at Arizona closes out the season on its traditional Thanksgiving weekend date.

While the 2025-26 college football season just ended on Monday night, the Big 12 will release the conference schedule for the 2026-27 campaign on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday evening ahead of its release, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported a few tidbits that could be of interest to fans of the conference in general and of the BYU Cougars specifically.

The conference said it would be rotating its title game on Fridays and Saturdays to "enhance national exposure."

To the surprise of nobody, the Texas Tech softball team was the unanimous choice to win the Big 12 and dominated the preseason all-conference team.

The Big 12 men lift the lid on the 2025-26 conference season on Friday night when West Virginia visits undefeated Iowa State. The Mountaineers are saying, “Geez, thanks for the undefeated opponent.” Every Big 12 team is over .500 going into league action.

On Sunday, KU’s 5-2 start placed the Jayhawks in a tie for fifth in the league standings with Iowa State. Arizona stood first at 7-0 heading into a Big Monday game against Texas Tech (6-1). BYU and Houston enter the week 5-1. Iowa State and KU are 5-2, followed by UCF and West Virginia (4-3). TCU is 3-4. Nobody else has more than two wins.
