The winter storm is moving offshore, but much of the eastern part of the country faces ice, bitterly cold temperatures and wind chill.
The Tennessee Department of Health reported on Sunday three weather-related deaths in the state, including one in Crockett County and another in Haywood County.
According to the Louisiana Department of Health, five additional winter storm deaths were reported Tuesday morning.
Frostbite symptoms include skin that turns white, grayish, or yellow and may blister. Signs of hypothermia can include confusion, slurred speech, lethargy and reduced responsiveness.
Mary Savisky, 81, died in her home Monday afternoon of cold exposure, Cook County Medical Examiner said.
